Aftermarket TACH and ignition pulse question

lundi 14 décembre 2015

I will start by saying hello and have gathered some good knowledge here and appreciate it. Being mechanic i didn't think i would need this site....until now...lol. So i got me a free 72 cheetah 440 with (what was said) a 100 miles on it. It is mint and shows little use, was going to get it running and flip until i seen the value. Well i have since come to like the couch with skis so decided to keep it. I ditched the walbro for a mikuni got dialed in enough to ride and since been waiting for snow. I'm A big fan of keeping things original but since decided to put my own touch on it without molesting it to much and have since run into a few issues that i hope some of you would be happy to help with.

1. MY RECENT PROBLEM. So i cant leave anything alone i decided i wanted to put a Tach on it. I download the service manual, and realized the electrical section is worthless did some searching and i CAN NOT find any info on the ignition. I did see people have tachs on these and i have a few laying around i wanted to use. So My question is this. I can deal with split coil issues but i cant figure out how many pulses this ignition is. Does anybody know? from the service manual i see what appears to be four magnets on the magneto so my general assumption was i need a 4 pulse tach. is this true? or is it a 2 or 6 pulse? Not totally necessary but since i looked into it seems like a tach may have been an option back then.
