Wondering if the stator can handle some Gerbing heated gear?

So I'm puting new intake boots/flanges on my 91 prowler 440 and there is a gap between boot and motor, on top side of boot, enough to push a dime through. Do I have a bad set of boots or do I need a gasket paste to fill gap. old ones sit flat.

I am a bit of a newbie to the snowmobile world. I blew my engine in my 2002 SKS 700 two hours after buying it. I was going to rebuild it but a guy has a rebuilt 700 out of a 99. Other than having to put on the VES pots is everything else the same?
If someone could give me some advice would be great.

2001 mxz 440 pull rope recoil question

Hi Gentlemen, On cold stars my pull rope does not retract well , it goes back in very slow and weak. when the engine cranks up it retracts fine. On warm starts there is not a problem. I did replace the recoil assembly about 6 yrs ago. thanks

In keeping with the spirit of Halloween, I thought I would make a "brought back from the dead" thread.

I`ve been going through this 98 ZL 500 since the summer, the original owner, my neighbor, had it in his barn, then moved it outside for a Halloween barn party a year ago.

This is where it sat till July of this year!

It went into my garage in July, after I pressure washed it and evicted a colony of ants, some of their corpses will probably haunt this sled for the rest of it`s life!



The first thing I did was get the carbs off for a good cleaning, I replaced the floats (stuck), and all the fuel line including the one in the tank.

hey all picked up a xcr with a 02 edge skid in it , well the back shock was blown , had it rebuilt, sled still seems to drop fairly easy, it dose rebound when compressed , but not to max height travel, spring r cranked up all the way, any ideas? ps it dose look like it has fat boy springs in it,

JD Trailfire wiring question

Just picked up a couple gems! 1983 Trailfire LX and 1984 Liquifire. The LF starts right off and ready to run. The Trailfire does not run, and the seller states it keeps burning out the CDI. Before I tear in to it does anyone have suggestions or experience with these?

I've searched old threads and came up with some advice on burnt out stators which I don't think is the issue. I'm thinking regulator or something similar.

I'm pretty excited about them. Speedo's are in KMH and the TFire reads 498 and the LFire reads about 750. By the condition I believe that is right because they both have really tight steering and hardly any wear on floorboards or handlebars etc.

1979 arctic cat jag 3000 f/a dual carb conversion

I have a 1979 arctic cat jag 3000 f/a and i was wondering about making it a dual carb sled. I have a spare carb off an identical jag and i have the aluminum and a welder so i can fabricate some intakes for the carbs. I am planning on buying a throttle cable for dual carbs and a dual output fuel pump. Anyone ever tried using a single output mikuni fuel pump and putting a y in the line so it can be used for dual carbs? Or putting a y in the vacuum line and powering two single output mikuni fuel pumps? I have two single output pumps and no spare dual outputs. They arent that expensive so it that doesn't work, its no big deal. and my other question is as far as jetting, do i have to mess with the jets? i am assuming yes, but how much? any recommendations?

96 500 Carb Dies after a few minutes

Hey all,
I work for a dealer here in MA. I've got a customer's 96 500 carb here and I'm trying to get it going for him. I've been through the carbs, synced the slides and choke plungers, new plugs, new fuel and new fuel filter. Air screws set to 1 turn out, jets are stock and clean. Compression is 130 in both. Intake boots are new.

Here's the problem. It starts and runs but idles high (~2200, supposed to be ~1600 according to the manual). Tweaking the idle speed screws drops it to about 1000 where it's clearly not happy. It's acting like it's lean even though it's not. The carbs are clean and intake boots are new. I can spray carb cleaner all over the carbs and intake boots and nothing changes so there are no air leaks.

After about 5 minutes or so it's like you turned the key off. It starts to bog and throttling does nothing and it will not restart. If you wait an hour or so it'll start first pull and run for a few minutes before dying again.

He only paid $300 for the sled and I'm a little over that in parts and labor so I don't want to cost him a fortune obviously so I'm wondering if there's any common problems these sleds have had? I'm leaning electrical but at $100/hr shop rate it's not really worth it to spend a ton more time on it.

Need help. 1998 zr 600 with BM twin pipes

My buddy purchased a 1998 Arctic Cat zr 600 carb snowmobile this spring as a project sled. It has been converted to a 136in. Since it's getting that time of year he wants to start working on it. He purchased a set of black magic twin pipes a few months back and is converting the front belly pan and hood to a 2001. Thought I would post on here since someone should know the specs for these pipes.

What he needs help with:
- Jetting and clutching for the black magic twins. (Never got any info with the pipes and of course BM is out of business.)
- What gearing should be used in a 136in.?(Owner said he regeared it so when it comes apart we shall find out if he did)

Hi, I'm a 16 year-old and want to buy a sled. My dad wants to spend up to $5,000 on a used snowmobile. I grew up with an older arctic cat 600 and a newer 570. Both were two-stroke. I have no brand-loyalty, and I will consider any sled, regardless of brand. I'm kind of set on two-strokes, but I have heard very good things about Yamaha's 4-strokes. I'm not the most knowledgeable about snowmobiles, fyi. Can you recommend me a fast, reliable sled, preferably 2 stroke, that I can ride on North West Pa trails and work on with my dad. I'm not the most ballsy, but I do love fast acceleration. Also, my dad wants to use the sled occasionally, and he prefers the newer sleds, because of the raised seats and his back. Apologies in advance if this is violating a rule or in the wrong section. :)

So my polaris rmk 700 01 144 (fully stock) has started to run a bit bad lately. Whenever i get in a spot where ot has to work it doesnt get the rpms up. For example if im gonna go sidehilling it starts good but when it digs down it just doesnt get the rpms up. I need some help because i dont know what it might be. Any tips/sugestions?

Mxz 700 advice

Hey guys, got our first snow a week ago here in Ontario and it has everyone in the sled mood, myself included.
I am looking at possibly buying a 2000 mxz 700 and want your input. Here is the tale of the tape; the chassis has an incredible 28,000+ km. the engine was supposedly done 5 years ago by a previous owner. the last owner didn't ride it much the last couple years and the current owner doesn't know exactly how many km on the engine. Track is almost new and not studded. Suspension and wheels look good. Only problem I am aware of is the torque rod between the motor and secondary was loose and the motor moved around enough to pound the manifold into the pipe and cause it not to seal great and it leaks a bit of exhaust there. Sled started on 3rd pull from my 14 yr old boy after sitting since last winter.
Guy is asking $1500 (here in Canada)

1999 indy classic 500,coolant leak

got a friends sled,that for the last few years he swears there is a coolant leak because the level in the overflow bottle lowers every time he tops it off and then rides for a couple hrs maybe 20 miles,sled has 5000 miles,only traceble leak is just slightly wet belly pan,but can not definitivly trace any leak,i told him possible head gskt or water pump gskt and or seal,any info on this kind of problem would be appreciated

Hey all, I'm new here and signed up because I severely need some advice.
So the story is I need to replace the crank seal on a 96 mxz 583. I don't have a clutch puller so I tried to use the Teflon tape and water method with the regular clutch bolt. Needless to say I foolishly put too much tape on and I over tightened and snapped the bolt off inside the clutch. Now I'm trying to split the crank thinking it might be easier to get the bolt out plus replace some bearings while I'm at it, also the pistons because they are worn. But I've been told that the crank won't split unless the clutch is off? I'm a bit of a nube when it comes to this stuff but only one way to learn right? Anyway, please let me know what u think and anything is helpful. Thanks - Nate

klotz oil in my formula stx

im new here obviously, ill get pics in a few. once you see the pics you might recognize it from a different forum. question is I bought the sled off my dad and he runs klotz injector oil in it. I know that its real good oil to run in it but its real expensive to run it. am I able to switch to a regular oil or no. Hello everyone I am new to this site. I currently have a 05 Polaris xc sp 50th year anniversary 600cc sled. I have a few questions and would be great to hear everyone's word. I just put on a seat jack and I will show a picture. The question that I had is when my wife and I get on the snowflap touches ground. I have turned my fox shock all the way up and also the torsion springs too are there didn't Polaris springs I can put in if so what are the part numbers and Weight limit also is it going to affect the rife and if so how much. ZR 8000 H.I.D. lights?

I'm not really able to find a happy medium with my headlight adjustments so I'm considering hid headlights with ballast. Has anyone ever installed these on the newer zr's or procross models? There is extremely limited space as far as where to mount the ballast. The stator output is just about maxed using the stock lights with the only add on being a heated shield. That rules out using a higher wattage bulb. Any info or feedback? Where to mount the ballast?

I'm looking to buy a used sled from a delership. There's three sleds that I'm interested in. One is an 2009 skidoo 600 tnt h.o with etec, the other is a 2010 skidoo 600 tnt and the third is an 08 Yamaha nytro rtx. I'm mainly looking to hear your opinions. Im not going to lie I like to ride hard and fast. I want a sled that will pick up the skis with ease and is light enough to throw around. I've heard the Yamaha nytro rtx has ton of off the line power but doesn't have the greatest top end and that there pretty heavy. As for the the other two sleds. I really haven't heard much about them. I'm just looking to see what your opinions are on them. Anyway thank you in advance.

Hello I have an issue with an 2012 Apex x-tx going through sliders quickly every 250 miles I also have a nitro with nearly the same configuration and same snow conditions that seems to be fine. I have checked the track tension and seems to be in spec. Any other ideas that I may have over looked?

arcing on the exhaust springs

I have some electrical arcing happening on the front exhaust spring and as I give it throttle it will continue thru all the springs. has anyone ever had this issue or know where to start. the sled is a 92 arctic cat jag. ive checked the wires on the voltage regulator and it seem to be grounded, and also checked as much of the wiring as I can get to and have not found anything

Aftermarket Parts for my sled

Anyone know where i can find good aftermarket parts for my sled? i haven't been able to find many because its an older sled. I have a 1996 Polaris ultra 680 sp. Are there any cheaper upgrades i can do to make the sled better? I know alot of people put triple pipes on my sled but im not very good with tuning carbs/ clutching since im so new to snowmobiling and have never done it before. i also don't want to compromise a lot of reliability. I have a Arctc Cat ZR120 that is leaking from the fuel cut off valve. For what I can see it looks like this is either part of the fuel tank or screwed directly into the tank. I can't find instructions on how to take the tank off the sled. Any help or anyone ever see this issue. Any hints on how to fix? I just bought the sled for my little guy and looking to make sure everything is working

So my Ski-Doo doesn`t have a tach and I`m thinking about adding one. my cluster looks empty with just the speedo sitting there offset, it looks as though all the wiring is there to hook one up. so other than aesthetics is there a good reason for one? will I be using it while riding? I`m sure I can find a good matching used one.

1995 XLT 600 mod build help

I got a 95 xlt at haydays (for those that know of this event in Wisconsin) it's got rail extensions and a 136x2 paddle track.

Question 1 it has 3500 miles on it with origanal pistons. I'm going to take it apart and reseal the whole motor and drill the oil passages but should I replace the pistons or will they last till next season? Founds are tight right now.

Question 2 it had tripple pipes and I took them off because I know the wreck cranks. I'm putting DG can on a stock pipe but what's the stock jetting on the carbs so I can tell if it was jetted for the tripple pipes.

Last question how do you port/drill the oil passages in the motor? I turned the oil punp up a little like I usally do on my sleds

Sled isn't starting

Sled isn't starting after starting all summer. When I put it away I put sea-foam in the tank, jacked up the back, fogged it with with fogging oil and put fogging oil down the cylinders. When I tried to start it for the first time I burned the oil/gas off of the plugs and gave it a bunch of pulls. Didn't start or backfire or anything. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

I just recently purchased a Yamaha exciter new nothing about it no key when I bought it so I unplugged key choked it and in 5 pulls we were running. I thought I could run without a key but when I pushed kill switch nothing happened. Do I need key switch for kill switch to work or is kill switch bad too? Which should I replace key switch or kill if they are both bad?

The sled has a bender racing pipe...I know nothing about it but wanted insight to keep it running good. Do the oil injection systems work or do I need to add oil to gas to be safe. Any special instructions since its piped?

2006 Ski Doo MXZ 800 Adrenaline running board questions?

I bent my left side running board last year flat against my tunnel and busted the rear suspension mount. I bent it back and welded the mount but I want tube running boards now since it was messed up it has a lot of flex to that side. I know about inserts and stiffeners but that's not what I want. I have looked at the major brands no one makes air tube boards for mine. I have 121" track. Does anyone know of a company or guy that will make me tube running boards? Also does anyone know the part number for my rear suspension mounting bracket riveted to the tunnel and running board? Can't find it anywhere and it's a tiny bit off angled since I snapped it and welded it back.

Ok. Not sure where to post this, so I'll try here.
I'm looking for a good trailerable cover. I've found a few on line. I want one that at least covers the steering knuckles, I found those and the ones that cover the entire skis.
Anyone have any advice on what's best to get? I'de like to keep it reasonable! Around $120. Seems they are out there. Just not sure what is best to go with. I want to protect everything as much as possible. I don't have a salt shield for my trailer....yet. Probably next year.

Another question, how do you measure? I site says to measure front to back and over the windshield! Another site says overall length, another site just tells you the length their covers will fit! Has anyone dealt with this issue? Seems like it should be easy, but they have very vague info. On how to properly measure. My skidoo is a 2up, no one addresses that. If not I will have to make a few phone calls. Just wanted some real world input.

Scratchers Needed for 2010 Z1 1100 Turbo

Hi, Looking to install a pair of ice scratchers on my 2010 Z1 1100 Turbo LXR. As you know, these Turbo sleds heat up quickly, especially at lower speeds. What are the best in your opinion? I'm currently looking at the Duraflex ice scratchers. Have any of you Z1 1100 owners tried these or other reversible types with great success? If so, please elaborate on how well they have worked out at both high and low speeds as well as any other comments. Thanks in advance, Ray

chain tension, 2000 Mountain Max 600

I just bought my first Yamaha and was wanting to know how tight the chain in the chaincase needs to be.

600 triple, Mountain Max 141. 1200 miles, picked it up for $600 bone stock except a home-made bar riser. Previous owner tried to force-feed it a stump and wrecked the inner bumper and pipe, so as I'm waiting for UPS to bring the used parts I ordered, figured good time to check the chaincase and the chain seems way too tight. I know its supposed to be tight but holy crap this is tight!

Can't wait to get this thing going! It didn't suffer any damage to engine or steering, and only a few cracks in the hood near the hinges. Ordered PSI pipes and can, clutching kit, and inner bumper and front grab-handle. I'll have about $1000 in it and it will show some cosmetic flaws but nevertheless can't wait to see how she does!

Oil Choice for 2015

I ran with Hypertech last year. No problems or issues. Wish someone would invent a cliplock closable refillable 2-stroke Oil transport systems, makes a mess when it opens up. Now this year we have Amsoil and Shell ultra full synthetic . I am told Shell is the best for sleds full synthetic 59$ for 5 L not so bad. Last year the amsoil did great in a old elan. what difference . Questuo for the sled Heads If you want to keep you machine , and performance what way to go.? Going to try the good stuff this year Amsoil.:dunno:

hi Fellas, me & my buddy are upgrading from our Polaris xc 800s. hopefully if we can find 2015 pro S 800s with low miles. I've read all reviews I could find, can any of you educate me on any common issues with the new axys chassis / electric oil pump or anything else that's on the axys 2015-2016. id love to order a 2016 with the cobra track option but id also like to save 3k & get a 2015 with 400-500 miles. if I understand correctly the 2015 & 2016 are exact same sled? would appreciate any feedback, thanks guys. (I found 2 of the 2015 sleds with under 550 miles each (demo sleds) but I will have to get them shipped...I always had picked tracks, is it not typical to pick the track on a pro S 800? thanks again guys, I appreciate yer feedback

RM Stator

Went to the NH grass drags this weekend and met one of the owners of RM Stator. Not only do they rewind stators, they are now manufacturing their own, as well as CDI's and regulators too. The guy was pretty cool, and even gave me an RM stator hat! I have their information up in the parts section.

hi Fellas, me & my buddy are upgrading from our Polaris xc 800s. hopefully if we can find 2015 pro S 800s with low miles. I imagine this will be an awesome change, its like going from riding an unruly overweight donkey through a mountain trail to flying first class on a smooth jet! 2000 Formula Z 700 Throttle Adjusment

I bought my machine off a guy two years ago and it is a sweet ride except one thing. The throttle is positioned so high its awkward as hell unless your sitting on the gas tank. I took the handlebar cover off and looked for screws to loosen it. I don't see any. My old 99 Z you could move the throttle up and down freely. I like it down for sitting back cruising. Please tell me you can adjust this thing. One guy told me my handlebars might be positioned forward a lot bringing it up high. I may adjust that but I don't mind where the bars are if I could just adjust the bloody thing down.

too many studs?????

so I've got my sled already to go for the upcoming season but am really starting to wonder if I should remove 48 studs. its just a baby 400 Indy and was already studded when I picked it up. it has 144 which to me seems way over the top. I'm fearing lots of rotating mass robbing power. it has 96 down the center and 48 down the sides that alternate. should I leave well enough alone and try it or pull the outside studs. what are your thoughts?

Pulse line outlet spitting oil Mist

hey guys just workin along on my 1999 thundercat, I was wondering, when I pull my pull cord (plugs are all out same with carbs), that my pulse line spits fresh oil out. I did pour some fresh apv oil in the cylinders a month ago or so because I was told if I didn't have oil in cylinders and crankcase that sled could rust with the humidity of summer. Is this oil mist spewing out of the impulse outlet temporary and will it hurt a fuel pump? Is my engine okay?

1989 artic cat jag 440 fuel problem

Hello, I am new to this site but hoping i can get some help with an older sled i purchased. I was told the sled sat for a couple years when i purchased it. I brought it home and cleaned the carburetor thoroughly. I put the carburetor back on and it started right up. I realized i forgot to attatch the fuel line running from the tank to the carburetor as it was leaking gas. I then attatched the fuel line back on the carburetor and the sled quit. I tried to restart it and it would fire but never start. I then took the carburetor back off and cleaned it again and put it back on without the fuel line attatched and it started right up again. Can anyone tell me what the problem is? Thank you

95 Yamaha vmax600 proaction plus XT suspension

new here..took off slide rail and track. greased all bearings since machine is old. also tightened up the 2 shocks a bit. installed back on and installed the drop brackets for higher clearance. as of right now the track suspension has 0 movement..doesn't even budge when I stand on it. loosened up shocks, took the straps off and track adjustment bolts are all the way loose I'm scratching my head. any suggestions?

600 classic not getting fuel

I have a 2001 600 classic and it is not getting fuel. I have a 1/4 of a tank and this summer after starting it up, it just stopped. When I spray starting fluid in the air intake, it starts up, but as usual only runs for a couple seconds. Does anyone have any suggestions?

trying to pull the primary off my sled and not enough funds to get a puller right now, manual says the bolt size is 5/8-18. i bought the bolt and its too large to screw into clutch. also wondering if i should mod it a little bit. im around 230 pounds plus some of the time ill have my 8 year old on with me. should i change anything? i want it running at peak performance. anything with the exhaust i can do? cylinders are a around 125 psi each, not sure what it should be running at

Hey guys, back at it agin on this monster project. Th eplugs coming off my carbs, I know they are a safety thing that has to do with the TSS, which i am putting a new one in. But what height do I set them??? They are adjustable. Could someone maybe send me pics or post a pic of what those little things should be set at? And what do they do and how do they work exactly?

Putting rings in my 1995 xcr 600 and there is a ridge at the top from cylinder wear. I tried using a ridge reamer but the button on the bottom of the blade catches the exhaust port. So I was wondering was there any other way to remove the ridge? Thanks

Speedo doesn't work....not what you think

The speedo cable on the jag was trashed when I bought it. Not sure what caused that. Also, the speedo itself was stuck at about 40mph.

I bought I new cable, hooked it up to the speedo and the other end to a drill. When running the drill forward, the speedo needle doesn't move. However, the miles and trip miles will move. When running the drill in reverse, the needle will move correctly, but zip right to the stop; essentially doing a lap around the entire speedo. Going forward will reset the needle back to zero mph.

Any thoughts? Anyone ever taken a speedo apart?

Yamaha RX Fuel Issues

Got a buddies Warrior RX I'm working on, believe it is an 06. Has 4 carbs.

Is not getting fuel.

Filled the carb bowls from the output hoses of the vacuum diaphrams and the sled would idle. Able to pull fuel through the hose on the input hose from the fuel tank. Took vacuum diaphrams apart, no visible issues, cleaned anyway. Seems like the diaphrams are working with blowing and/or sucking?!

When the bowls were fuel and the diaphrams were hooked up it would idle for a bit and eventually cut out.

Trying to figure out what my next step should be... any ideas?

98 zr 600 idle issue

I've owned many sleds that have always idled up when started cold. They all idled down after warming up. I have a 98 zr 600 that does not idle up at cold start. I cleaned the carbs, and all passages in carbs. The jets are cleaned and are also crrect for the sled. The sled runs great otherwise. What would cause this?

just bought this sled and know it sat for about 4 seasons. so i changed the plug and cleaned the carb and now i cant get gas to carb. i tried the primer bulb but it did not work, blew into the gas tank trying to pressurize it and gas starting pouring out of the fuel line going from my tank to a tee that connects to a small box on my bellow pan, i believe it might be the fuel pump. i replace that line and tried to pressurize my tank again and nothing flowing. any ideas?

Anyone have any fuel rack ideas for my sled? i have a 96 polaris ultra. Thinking about adding a tunnel extension and then adding a gas rack to that.

New style seat?

Theres a discusion going on, on FaceBook, pretty much it is redesigning the seat. It pivots in the front and has a single shock in the back. It would kinda be fun to try building one, anybody try this? With the right shock i think it could be really comfortable.

Just reading all the new sleds coming out, looks like Polaris getting away from the true tourering sleds, only Yami has the old sit down style, guess will have to stick with my Edge for awhile, as wife hates the back rest on the new Polaris, I get that they want 1 sled that does everything, strip the stuff off, hmm I been doing that for years on my 05 strip the seat and bars off, slap on my plate, still have storage, plus I can load gear on back
