97 700 RMK engine issues

lundi 7 décembre 2015

Hi Guys/Gals,

This is going to be a bit of a long explanation of what's going on so please be patient with me and thank you for any and all help in advance...

I bought a 97 RMK 700 in the summer for crazy cheap ($180) that was in need of mostly cosmetic repairs. Ran great and has 135psi compression on both cylinders. Has twin SLP pipes and stock gutted airbox. I've cleaned the carbs and installed new jets (same ones that were in it when I bought it 165 mains and 42 pilots - I'm at about 4000') I have the air screws turned out 1.5 turns as well. The Sled starts and runs excellent at an idle but on my digitron the mag cylinder is very cold compared to the PTO side (to the point where the PTO exhaust is hot to the touch after a few minutes of idling and the mag side exhaust is still cold). I can place my hand over and completely cover the mag side carb and it will not kill the engine but will if I cover the PTO side it will. I have swapped coil wires around with a little bit of change but nothing significant. I was thinking that maybe the mag side was getting intermittent spark and not firing all the time  Also I have sprayed starting fluid around crank seal locations as well as carb boots with no increase in idle (I know this will make the cylinder run hotter if there is a leak).

There seems to be a mist of fuel coming back out of the carbs when I give it some throttle from an idle. I have noticed that the carb slides seem to be a bit sticky and do not return all the way down if I slowly release the throttle but if I snap the throttle they will return fully.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated as to where to start or components to replace as I'm planning on going to Golden, BC in 2 weeks and want to get these issues figured out so that it runs proper here before I rejet it up there.

Thanks Everyone!!
