Primary Clutch Mystery! Please help!

jeudi 10 décembre 2015

So this year I bought a couple of Polaris 800s, we've taken them out a few times and the 2000 runs great, but the 2001 is being quite quirky. It doesn't have this issue all the time just when we start riding, then it stops and behaves the rest of the day.

When we start it, it will run fine then after riding it about 30 ft it dies. When we try to turn it over again the pull chord will only give about 3"-4". The extra resistance on the chord remains for about 5 pulls, then the chord releases and it starts up, but then it tries to take off on it's own, you have to hold the brake to keep it still. We restart it 2 -3 times and it will finally stop self engaging.

I know that this has to a primary clutch problem, it's like it stays engaged when it dies and just never lets go of the belt. Not sure why it finally disengages after a few tries and runs great the rest of the day. Just wondering what it may be.

From what i understand it seems like it may be one of the flyweights getting stuck in the wrong position, or the main bushing going out inside the clutch? Not too sure, but any advice would be epic! We're gonna pull the primary on Saturday and check it out.

Thanks ahead of time!!
