Hi all I'm new here. I have seemingly acquired this machine (not having ever had one myself before). It has been retrofitted with Kohler 290cc motor. I'm not exactly sure what would have been in this chassis before but...
Actually it was my stepson who got it first and between he and I we got it running (put carb kit in keihin carb and replaced one coil). We toyed with it last winter till the headlight went out and it's sat till this winter again. It seems to have good compression cold (cant remember warm), but I need some help with a few things.
First I guess might be maybe a wiring diagram for the chassis, in order to trouble shoot wiring from headlight plug back to the motor connections. Second fuel line routing and specs. When did they discontinue the use of a primer bulb between the fuel tank and the carb (would one be necessary on this setup between a diaphragm carb and the tank and or would it make easier starting especially of compression wasn't up to snuff or carb wasn't keeping prime). I'm considering putting one in.
I haven't started it yet this winter.
If I can repair the headlight problem, fabricate some sort of airbox cover (original one is missing for kohler motor) so snow and water doesn't easily foul the carb, and give it some TLC maybe in eventually replacing the carb for a better one it might be a nice little machine for me as its quick enough.
One other problem it seems to have from my stepson riding it for a bit was that the cowl apparently and obviously due to a different motor isn't ducted properly for adequate airflow to cooling fan so some adjustments will have to me made there also. In addition some fool must have opted to (probably with scavenged parts re-positioned the muffler from where it should have been along the right side to in front of the motor across the lower part of the chassis which puts it quite close to the cowl. That's not a big problem as I don't have spare parts to put it where it probably would be better placed as of yet.
Main problems now are the fuel, carb, airbox, cooling and headlight issue.
Help is greatly appreciated. I don't have a lot of dough right now to throw at this but it still could be a neat little machine on a low budget with an ol guy riding it and taking some care with it.
Ron
This kohler motor currently is a pull start motor no electric.
