I've been playing around with some numbers here: Snowmobile MPH/Gearing Calculator
I'm plugging in the stock gears on the Puma....and the new gears that I picked up from KC.
I just wanted to run a few things off of you guys first....
Putting in the info for the stock gears on the Puma, at 7k (peak RPM) it says the sled will do 67.6 mph. That seems high to me! Granted, there's no way to enter engine size, so maybe the formula is more generic for "most" sleds. (Plugging the numbers in for the Jag, it says that'll do 77!)
Anyway, my intent is to see the difference in speed with the new gears. I went from an 18/40 to a 17/41. Using the calculator, it seems that it should only drop the speed around 3-5mph throughout the RPM range. I regeared to help a bit with the bottom end on the tight trails we ride.
