Starting issue with my Indy 650, but I believe it's swapped into a 340/440 Indy Sport

vendredi 1 janvier 2016

I purchased a "1991 Indy 650" with a light blue Indy Sport hood last Feb during the snowgasm we were having up here in the NorthEast for a fair price, in running condition. I drove it for a couple of months fairly issue free (had to replace throttle cable) and all of a sudden on a preeeeetty warm (low 40s day) in April my son was puttering along in our field and it stalled out.

I was able to tow it back to my house about 100yds away and successfully got it started one more time after, for about 1 minute, and then it idle'd out and died. I thought I had a fuel issue, as when I pulled the cord I did not see anything being pulled through the fuel line (as I did when it was shown to me at purchase). Up to now I am able to blow in the tank, get the fuel visibly moving through the lines and I can quickly put cap on and pull cord to get fuel moving. slowly. I'm not sure if that is an issue, because my apparent bigger and possibly underlying issue is I am getting no spark from any brand new plugs, while sitting on top of my engine and laying on sanded bolts.

This would probably be a pretty basic issue, but I was talking to friends who think it is a swapped 650 triple into a smaller chassis sled. There are some wires on the exhaust side by a connector plug that appear to be either cut, nor not going to anything. Again, it ran prior to this, and noone has been tinkering with wires. I will get up some pictures if it helps identify things, but I'm a noob and baffled, and its really frusterating as oval snowmobile racing has been in my family since the late 70's!

These friends say perhaps stator, or coil, because no spark. I am also curious about the fuel vacuum issue I may or may not have.

Any ideas, oh wise and knowledgeable ones?
