Good day everyone, I live in Colorado Springs and I have rented snowmobiles 2 times in my life. Once at Mount Washington in BC and once at Whistler. The one at Mount Washington was much more stable then the one at Whistler and the Whistler trip had about 3 feet of fresh powder and it was snowing big fluffy snow the whole time and I had to be dug out a lot more and fell over more. That being said I loved both times.
So I would like to buy a sled that I can use for my last winter here in Colorado in the Mountains and then still enjoy riding when I have to move back to Canada next summer. Probably in the Ottawa area. I have been reading up on all the sleds and I thought maybe a cross over would be best so I can ride some trail and maybe try some more off trail. I am more interested personally in getting off the beaten path and getting up into the mountains, I love Dowhn Hill Mountain biking and jumping so I would think I would be into the same in a snowmobile. So with that said would a Crossover be good enough or should I look more at a used RMK 800 or 800 SWITCHBACK ASSAULT , Ski Doo Summit, or Arctic Cat M series snow pro. There seems to be a lot more of these types for sale used then the crossover. I
So with all of that said would you guys recommend getting a cross over or a mountain sled. Could I still have fun on a mountain sled in Ottawa where it maybe mainly trail riding with the odd day of Northern Ontario or Quebec deep snow riding. Also should I try to find a 600 vs a 800 since I am learning or just go with the larger machine as they seem more common and may be easier to re-sell some day.
Last question, I looked for a Colorado Springs Snowmobile club and could not find one. How do you find people to ride with if none of your friends ride? I would not want to try going off into the woods by myself with no experience.
Thank you for any assistance any if you can lend me.
