600 classic not getting fuel

I have a 2001 600 classic and it is not getting fuel. I have a 1/4 of a tank and this summer after starting it up, it just stopped. When I spray starting fluid in the air intake, it starts up, but as usual only runs for a couple seconds. Does anyone have any suggestions?
