Male snap and rivet on '90 Indy 400

samedi 1 août 2015

I am totally happy with how my $50 seat/tank&cover/storage rack restoration has turned out. I used acetone on the vinyl, and it cleaned up so well that I only needed one vinyl dye spray session to make it look like new. I did have a rip at the butt seam that I couldn't do anything underside with, so I used the redi-grip stuff for dunking wrenches into, and that turned out awesome as well. Not like new, but doubt I'll have any more rips there.

On to the subject... the gas tank cover for the Touring that's going on my sons' 90 Indy 400 has only three snaps per side, whereas the 93 Polaris Touring tank cover has four. The front three seem to match perfectly tunnel-to-new cover, but I need male snaps and rivets attached to the tunnel for the fourth female snaps on the cover.

Anyone here done something like this? I'm all ears. I saw male snaps (7080227) on eBay for a few bucks, but I've not dealt with rivet installations before (7621222). I think I have a rivet tool in my garage that I've never used.

Can these male snaps and rivets be bought at Ace or Menards? I'll head over there later today if I don't have any feedback before. Thanks, Eric.
