1986 Yamaha Phazer carb swap. Newbie here

jeudi 26 novembre 2015

Hey guys,
First post on the forums. I have been searching and browsing for about a month now before I signed up. I recently just acquired two new to me sleds, a 1986 Polaris Indy 400 and a 1986 Yamaha Phazer 485 w/electric start. I am starting with fixing the Phazer as the motor in it was in better shape. However it had sat for a few years and the gas gummed up the carbs. I have cleaned the carbs 2 times and let them soak in Berrymans carb cleaner. However they are still not functioning correctly. They idle but do not like to accept and throttle above 2000 rpm. And yes the rubber plugs are in the correct spots lol. So out of frustration I gave up on them. I took the VM34SS carbs off the Indy, they are a round slide style. I put them on the Yamaha and they idle and respond to throttle a lot better, however I start to bog past the pilot circuit throttle position. I know I need to up my fueling. Has anyone swapped these carbs onto a Phazer before? I have all the carb specs as far as what the current jetting is for the VM34SS carbs. Just need to know what I should up my jetting to. Sorry for the long winded post.
