I was working on the Puma today and removed the housing for the speedo bearing housing to have a look. The grease looked ok, but was really brown. I grease this twice a season with "Green Grease" which is basically white grease with a green tint to it. Not sure what was in there before; maybe that caused the funky color.
I removed all that crud from the housing and wiped down the bearing. I then put a few pumps of Green Grease in the housing and used my finger to apply some fresh grease directly to the bearing. Once installed, I gave the zerk a few more pumps.
Should be good to go now. Guess this will be part of my off season wrenching going forward.
