Hey everyone, I joined a few years back when I had a 1999 Yamaha SRX 700. Live in the NEK area of Vermont. Times changed, I went back to college, and sold that sled due to paying for school and lack of time. Now I have the time to ride again, and a fiancee who loves riding as well, so I was on the lookout for a pair of sleds.
Found a 1999 Vmax SX600 (redhead triple) and a 2000 SRX 700, priced reasonable because they hadn't been started or ridden in 4 years. Stored in a garage, thankfully. Went to check them out, they seemed in pretty good shape, 700 has reverse, both have studded tracks, compression checked within a few PSI of 145 on all 3 cylinders, both sleds. So I told the man I'd take them. Pick them up next weekend.
Now I know I'm gonna have to go through the carbs, before I even try and start them. Not a big deal, I did that multiple times on my old SRX.
I'm reasonably mechanically inclined, I rebuild and repair chainsaws (granted, simpler machines but still 2 strokes) so I have an idea how things work. But it's been a few years since I've worked on a sled. Anything else I should be concerned about while bringing these machines out of a 4 year sleep?
Oil and coolant stuff?
Fuel lines\filters sound good, where to get parts? I know a bunch of places I can get good saw parts at non OEM prices, but snowmobile stuff? No idea. Suggestions?
Is the 600 that much different than the 700 in terms of general layout and design?
Thanks guys!
